Little girl has her wish granted

Vicksburg, MS (WLBT) – Five-year-old Sarah loves the outdoors but its not always easy for her to play with her friends and siblings.

“Sarah has cerebral palsy and isn’t able to play like a lot of kids play,” said Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi’s wish coordinator Shaye Smith.

So her mother sent a request to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi.  Wish granters answered with a covered gazebo outfitted with everything a playground should have; a swing, slide, sandbox and a wagon for Sarah to ride in.

“They retro fitted with some special needs stuff and its great for her.  It’s a very beautiful setting shady, been wonderful for her,” said Val Moore, who helped build the play ground.

“We wanted to make sure we had a shady environment, a place that could stimulate her senses, a fun place where mom, dad and family could sit with her and enjoy the environment,” said Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi President and CEO Paul Jones.

Sarah can’t communicate verbally, but her face lit up at the site of her new outdoor play area.

“Sarah can come outside and play, enjoy the outside and not sit inside and do nothing,” said Sarah’s mother Jennifer Hartley.  “We were happy, happy for her.”

Wish granters from the foundation, local businesses and churches gathered around the little girl.  It was a celebration for Sarah’s granted wish and also for her fifth birthday.

“It’s great to see people can come together in the kindness of our hearts to do good things,” said Jimmy Patterson of Jewelers of America, one of the sponsors.
