First Case of Swine Flu in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The state Department of Health says the first swine flu cases have been identified in Mississippi. Public health officials were to release details about the cases on Friday during a news briefing. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 47 U.S. states, including the District of Columbia, have a combined 4,714 confirmed and probable cases. Most probable cases end up being confirmed. Texas health officials said a 33 year-old Corpus Christi man died of swine flu this month. A Corpus Christi-Nueces County health official said the man had pre-existing medical conditions, including heart problems that made it more difficult for him to survive any viral illness.
