Miss. foreclosures drop in March

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The number of Mississippi households facing the loss of their homes fell by 25% in March from February as the state tracked behind most of the nation in the overall count.

That’s according to data released Thursday by RealtyTrac, a foreclosure listing firm.

Last month, 221 homeowners in the state received at least one foreclosure-related notice. That’s up 17.5% from March 2008.

For the latest month, Mississippi ranked 46th in the country in properties with foreclosure filings. Those can range from the initial notice of default to outright repossession.

For the first quarter of this year, 768 homeowners in Mississippi received at least one notice. That ranked 44th in the country, but still represented a jump of 57% from the fourth quarter of 2008.
