Mississippi’s Scott Bittle named SEC pitcher of week as scoreless streak moves to 16 innings

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi pitcher Scott Bittle has been named the Southeastern Conference’s pitcher of the week.

In his second start of the season, the converted reliever threw a complete-game shutout against Kentucky in an 8-0 win. He has now pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings. The streak began in his first start when he shut down LSU for seven innings last weekend.

Bittle, a senior right-hander from Texarkana, Texas, gave up just three hits and allowed only four baserunners against the Wildcats. Bittle’s earned-run average dropped from 3.06 to 2.03 after the game.

LSU’s Micah Gibbs was named the SEC’s player of the week.
