460 lbs. of pot found in DeSoto drug bust

State transportation enforcement officers discovered 460 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $460,000 in a refrigerated van trailer that pulled into a I-55 southbound inspection facility today.

The driver, Jose R. Garcia. 25, of Fontana, Calif., is in custody, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He is being held in the DeSoto County Jail without bond awaiting arraignment.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation officers noticed the 2000 Kenworth tractor pulling the trailer at about 7 a.m. had the license plate displayed in the front windshield. They stopped the vehicle and began a routine paperwork and safety inspection, according to an MDOT news release.

The driver’s log book was not current, and an MDOT enforcement officer became suspicious of the driver’s actions and the answers to his questions. The driver gave consent to search the vehicle. In the search of the trailer that was transporting celery and chili peppers, the officer found 22 large bundles near the front containing the marijuana.

The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics assisted with the investigation. Efforts are underway to determine the source and destination of the contraband, according to the news release.

I’m currently paying $120/quarter for some nice bud. I could become happy with $1000/lb.
